Last month we went with some friends to Koh Samui, Thailand and had the best time! We would go back in a heart beat. I thought I would share some photos and recommendations from our trip.
WHERE TO STAY
Airbnb Big Buddha Beach Pool Villa
This place was perfect! We got it for our group of 6 and stayed a week. We had our own rooms and a pool and we had a spot to park all our scooters.
Rent scooters! It was so easy to get around the island this way and so much fun. I can not wait to get on a scooter again.
The food was AMAZING! Our favorite place was Noi Friendly Restaurant. Amazing red and green curries, shrimp pad thai, and mango sticky rice. We ate here at least 3 times.
Also definitely try the Chang Beer, it's refreshing in the heat.
WHAT TO DO
Thai Massages - If you've never had one before the first one might seem really intense but then you start to look forward to them. There are places all over where you can get these we usually just walked by places in Fisherman's Village Bophut.
Chase Waterfalls - The waterfalls were pretty small but if you're looking for an adventure they might be worth it. The one we went to involved a lot of climbing on rocks. And while the waterfall wasn't that great the views overlooking the island we're actually really awesome.
Charter a long tail boat - This was one of my favorite parts of the trip! We rented a private long tail boat for the day. We went to two Islands where we got to hangout and go snorkeling. I definitely recommend doing this.
Chaweng Beach - If you're looking for a big sandy beach this is for you. You can get drinks or food from one of the many restaurants right on the beach.
Mae Nam Beach - If you're looking for a big sandy beach this is also for you. If you go to the very end of this beach (left of the Mae Nam Pier) there's a tiny little road with a great lunch spot as well. (Unfortunately I can't remember the name and it was very much off the beaten path.)
Songkran - If you want to experience an Island wide water fight this is the time to go. Songkran is their New Year and it is crazy! EVERYONE just dumps buckets of water on you or hits you with their water guns. You can not opt out. I was so glad I got to experience it but it is definitely not for everyone.
Like I said, we had the absolute best time here. If you're contemplating where you want to travel to next I would add Koh Samui to your list ;)
